PCN: LDD-130x Firmware Update v2.21 with new software features

We hereby inform you that from now on we offer a new firmware version 2.21 for Meerstetter Laser Diode Drivers LDD-1301 and LDD-1303.

Therefore, from June, 10th 2025 we will send all our new LDD-130x quotations and order confirmations (and the resulting devices) with firmware version 2.21 as standard.

Order confirmations with different versions as well as your existing specific customer requests will remain valid.

If you would like a different firmware version for your LDD-130x, please contact our sales team.

New software features for the Laser Diode Drivers LDD-130x

  • Introducing feature activation
In future, we will be offering selected, newly developed software functions that make our LDD-130x laser diode drivers even more powerful as paid features. All features can be tested free of charge on the LDD-130x laser diode drivers from FW v2.21 for the first 150 operating hours. If you are convinced of the benefits of the features, you can purchase individual features permanently. Order the feature from our sales team and you will immediately receive a license key so that you can use the feature.
  • New feature: Feedforward Control (for pulses or modulation)
Benefit from significantly more dynamic control behavior of the transient target currents thanks to feedforward control based on an automatically recorded diode characteristic. This means steeper edges when pulsing and more dynamic control behavior when modulating with the laser diode drivers.
  • New as a software feature without hardware adaptation: Light Power Control (LPC)
Light Power Control (LPC) enables the optical laser power to be controlled by means of feedback through an integrated monitor photodiode. While the function was previously configured on the hardware side, LPC is now available for LDD-130x devices as a flexibly activatable software feature - for simpler commissioning and configuration without physical adjustments to the system. To make this possible, all devices will be equipped with a 4 mA photodiode input as standard in the future. Devices that do not have this will still need to be retrofitted to be able to use the LPC function.
  • Adjustment of the hardware labeling
With the introduction of firmware version 2.21, the hardware identification (product string), which appears on the device label, in order confirmations and in other product-related documents, will also be adapted. This product string now contains the reference “PD” (e.g. LDD-1303-VC1-PD4) if the photodiode input is present. “PDx” refers exclusively to the photodiode input and not to the activation status of the LPC function.

More information on the firmware update and the new features can be found in LDD-130x Software Release Notes (PDF) and the LDD-130x LDD-130x User Manual (PDF).

Updating the LDD-130x-Firmware yourself

If you already own an LDD-130x, you can update the firmware yourself (at least FW v1.40 must already be installed). To do this, download the LDD-130x Service Software from our website and install the firmware in the Service Software under the “Maintenance” tab, “Device Boot Loader” section.

Attention:

  • After upgrading to a FW ≥ v2.00, it is no longer possible to downgrade to a firmware < v2.00 without sending the device to Meerstetter Engineering.
  • The new firmware version is only compatible with LDD-130x hardware versions ≥ HW v1.10.
